In this third module, we are going to talk about, what is Off-page SEO, how On-page and Off-page SEO works, On-page SEO vs Off-page SEO, about High Quality Content, Domain Authority, Page Ranking, how to apply Off-page SEO and many more interrelated concepts. So let’s get started.
What is Off-page SEO?
So let me start with it’s definition first. So the definition says, Off-page SEO refers to an action of your website where you work externally for your website’s search engine rankings, so that it can perform better when someone tries to find any information from the search engine and your website reflect first to them to increase your traffic performance on google search engine.
So as we already know what is SEO here, that is our search engine optimization and what is the motive of doing SEO is just, we just want to improve our website ranking on google search engine results. So just like that, we have On-page SEO and Off-page SEO too.
However, we have already explained everything about On-page SEO in our last article, and we are going to cover everything about Off-page SEO here in this article. But still, let me explain On-page SEO a little bit for some clarity. But if you want to know in detail, you may read our On-page SEO article using search option.
How On-page SEO and Off-page SEO Works?
So this On-page SEO is also known as your On-site SEO where you can perform every activity on the website, such as, your title, your meta description, your image alt, EEAT, YMYL etc but in case of Off-page SEO, as the name suggests, it means, we have to work off side means externally for the website to rank faster in google search engine results.
So along with the On-page SEO, it is also adviced to practice Off-page SEO for the website’s better performance on google search engine, why? because Off-page SEO gives a very good indication of your website to your search engine crawlers, like how other websites and users perceive your website, such as what they are thinking about your website, like whether your website provides high quality content or not or whether it is a high quality content website or not.
What’s the Meaning of High Quality Content or Website?
Alright, let’s understand this properly. So let’s suppose we have a website and we have another website here okay. In case of Off-page SEO, we can do activities outside the boundaries of our website. For example, it means, if we have a website with the domain name, let’s say, www.example.com, so now we have this website and we create this particular link on other website who are known as high quality content websites. So basically, high quality content websites treated as those websites which have a high domain authority score or atleast a good domain authority score. Now maybe you might not be aware of domain authority term, so let me explain this in detail.
What is Domain Authority (DA)?
So domain authority or DA means that, the website having high domain authority. High domain authority basically means, any particular domain or any particular website is performing very good on google as high as the domain authority score is in between 50 to 200. Generally, these websites are more likely to grow and grab ranking opportunities of any search engine. For checking the domain authority (DA) score of your website, you can use ahrefs, moz, ubersuggest etc SEO tool websites.
How does Domain Authority (DA) affects Search Engine Rankings?
So yes, this domain authority affects your ranking a lot on search engines like google, yahoo, bing etc. If your domain authority score is good, then it is easy for search engine to decide whether to rank this website or not.
For example, websites containing a good domain authority score is treated as positive by google crawlers because these website can give a clear indication to the search engine crawlers that, your website is also working fine, and has high quality content and good user experience and engagement rate. Because high domain authority websites generally get scorers through other website references.
For example, a website having high domain authority is more likely to have good amount of references from different sources, here the references basically means backlinks, backlinks are those links of your website which has been mentioned on other websites or sources from where you basically get traffic and DA score to your website. DA doesn’t only considers backlinks but also your brand awareness like where it is getting mentioned, what’s the amount and how they are getting used, like on social media platforms such as facebook, twitter (X), instagram, LinkedIn etc.
These all are your social media which help in brand awareness, and it is more likely to be bookmarked and share among communities of like-minded people here, and we can create our website backlink on those sites, where we can find like-minded users. All these signals give the green light to search engine to rank a website higher in the results so that’s why our Off-page SEO is important.
What are the Benefits of Off-page SEO?
Now next we have some benefits of doing Off-page SEO alright, so for example, the first one we already know is that, the increase in the ranking, so the website do well in search engines and get more and more traffic.
What is Page Rank?
Next benefit is page rank. So what this basically means? So page rank is just a number between 0 to 10 which indicate the importance of a website in the eye of google, for example, page rank is one of the most important factor out of your 250+ ranking factors, that’s what google use to rank a website because with the help of page rank, you can get greater exposure, here greater exposure means high ranking because when a website rank in the top position, in that case, you can get more traffic, more links, more visitor, more social media references and definitely you can get more ROI.
So with the help of page rank, you can also improve your page quality. For the page quality, we have model here that is known as EEAT model and that EEAT model stands for expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness. On-page SEO vs Off-page SEO
Now as we have already discussed what is Off-page SEO and On-page SEO in our previous article, so now it’s the time to discuss Off-page SEO vs On-page SEO. So as you already know that, in case of On-page SEO, we can work on our page directly like, your H1 title tags, your canonical tags, your H2 headings tags, internal link, external link, comments, mobile friendly interface, page speed etc, we can work on all these factors here for On-page SEO.
However, in case of Off-page SEO, we work outside the boundaries of your website and that’s why it’s called as Off-page SEO, but in case of On-page SEO, we have to do activities fully on our control but in case of Off-page SEO, it’s something out of our reach, why i’m saying out of your reach, see if you want to improve your title, you can improve this, it is up to you, but if you create your website link on other website, so you are not sure whether you can get ten thousand traffic from other website or not, because you have to create many backlinks, and the traffic you may get from the backlinks is not guaranteed, so we have to wait for a long time, it’s a long time activity and that is not in our hand.
How to apply Off-page SEO?
Now let’s discuss how you can apply Off-page SEO in your website. So I am going to discuss what activities you have to follow. So most of the activities are external activities which are outside the boundaries of the website. So the first activity is link building then we have social media marketing, and in last brand awareness, these are the three most important pillars of Off-page SEO. Now let’s understand these one by one below.
1. Link Building
Now I have used this link building term a lot in the middle of the article, so let me explain this, what it is, so it is one of the activity of Off-page SEO, and link building is not only the activity but also the most popular and effective Off-page SEO technique, why i am saying this because by building link to your website, you are trying to gather as many votes as possible, so that you can bypass your competition and rank higher.
For example, if someone likes your article and give your website references in their website or blog, then this is like telling search engine that, this page has good information, so that’s why we can do link building which is a most effective page seo technique okay.
For example, we have some ways of doing link building here, such as blog directories, your form signature, comment link, article directories, content directories, exchange schemes etc. So these all are the different methods of doing link building.
2. Social Media Marketing
Now next, we have social media marketing in case of social media marketing, nowadays social media mansions are responsible for the visitors gain and also have become a ranking factor and proper configuration of social media. If you make your profile as effective as possible on social media, just like your facebook, twitter, linkedin etc. In that case you can also get benefit. But, this will only work if you have strong reach on your social media, otherwise it is not much effective.
3. Brand Awareness
Next we have brand awareness, so in the case of brand mansions or brand awareness, google love brands and prefer to rank branded websites on the top of the results because they considers brands are the most reliable sources because of their good quality and likely to be trusted by users.
Let’s suppose, you are searching any particular keyword, let’s say, we have a keyword that is running shoes, this is the generic keyword here, and if people are searching like “Nike Running Shoes” So Nike is what we call as brand because people can trust on this particular brand because of their quality, their experience, trust and they are happy to use that.
The difference between brand awareness and link building and social media marketing is that, brand mention do not necessarily have a link pointing to your website, but the google crawler can pick up these signals, and evaluate them, and accordingly to more and more keywords like that, they consider them as trusted and they start considering them in EEAT model and hence eventually their website starts getting recommended by google even if someone has no search that brand.
