Hello guys, welcome back to CybercityHelp once again. So in our today’s article, we are going to discuss about our sixth module of SEO that is known as Keyword Research.

However, this keyword research consists of two modules that is (module 5 and 6), so we would recommend you to first read our module 5 before beginning with module 6 because both modules are interconnected. So in our sixth module, we are going to cover every concept of keyword research, such as, what is keyword research, what is the need of keyword research, what is the benefits of keyword research and lastly how to perform keyword research. So let’s get started.

What is Keyword Research?

So let’s understand the meaning of keyword research by looking at its definition. So the definition says, keyword research is the process of finding those words or phrases that users type into a search engine when looking for any information on the internet. Here search engines are google, bing, yahoo etc.

So what’s basically the meaning of keyword research? So it’s just a way to know what people are searching on google, for example, if you are searching “cake store near mumbai” so here, this part is known as keyword, and to know what people are searching is basically known as keyword research.

What is the Need of Keyword Research?

So the need of keyword research is to understand the user’s interest behind the content and to create the exact content that can satisfy their interest, we use keyword research.

You will not get ranking if you do not satisfy the user’s search query, because satisfying your visitor’s query is very important here.

Once you get to know what your visitors want and what information they are looking for, then you can create your content accordingly. In that case, it becomes easier for you to create the content your visitors want, and this can also help your website rank in google’s search engine results pages.

What are the Benefits of Keyword Research?

Keyword Research has a lot of benefits. Keyword research is the only way by which we can get the right direction to create content and get ranking in the google search engine. For example, it helps us to understand user interests, search volumes, keyword ideas, cpc rate etc. Let us understand these terms in detail one by one:

1. User’s Interest

The first benefit is user’s interest. Keyword research tells you everything about your user’s interest such as what they want, what their choices are, and what kind of content they prefer. It also helps in finding out the right keywords for your users and also gives you the idea of creating the right content for your audience.

Once you know the demand of your audience with the help of keywords, then you can create content accordingly based on their interest.

2. Search Volumes

The second benefit is search volumes. The search volumes for each keyword can also be found with the help of keyword research tools. We can figure out the statistics data of any keyword we want, for example we can check, how much searches are being made on a particular keyword that we are working on, we can see the searches on real time basis, day wise basis, week wise basis and even monthly or yearly basis. This way, we can decide whether a keyword is suitable for our content or not, and how much effort we need to put in to rank our website.

3. CPC Rate

The third benefit is CPC rate. We can also figure out the cost per click (CPC) rate of every keywords that we want to work on. We can check out, how much the keyword is valuable in the market, basically it’s known as keyword value, and how much the advertiser is willing to pay for that particular keyword. In this way, we can get the idea whether to work on that keyword or not according to the payment we may get using those keywords.

4. Keyword Difficulty

The forth benefit is Keyword Difficulty. So by using keyword research tools, we can also get the idea of the difficulty level of every keywords, such as, how much competition is there for a keyword, how much content is already index in the google about that keyword, so by this factor, we can decide in which keyword we should work and in which we should avoid.

5. Keyword Ideas

The last benefit is Keyword Ideas. Sometimes whenever we decide to create content, we get confused in choosing the right keyword, so using keyword research, it can give us clear idea or lot of releted keywords based on the field we want to target. So it can also helps us to get keyword recommendations to create content based on yours interest and it’s availablity.

How to Perform Keyword Research?

So now the question is how to perform keyword research. This is the main question we have. As we already know what keyword research is and what its benefits, now it’s the time to know how to perform keyword research. So let’s understand it’s all process one by one:

1. Decide Your Niche

The first step in keyword research is to decide your Niche. Start by typing search terms related to your field on google. For example, if your field is science, you may type “quantum physics” If your focus is on different field like technology, then you can refine your search by typing “operating system” In the same way, if your field is too specific, then you may type “preemptive operating systems like SJH, FCFS” etc keywords to decide your field.

2. Analyse the Search Results and Competitors

Once you completely decide your field, you can start exploring the websites that show up on the first page of google. Take your time to notice them like how often these websites post new content, what types of content they create whether it is articles, videos, or images and how their websites are structured. Pay attention to their homepage, menus, pages formatting and structure etc.

Also, observe their presence, such as, which platforms they are active on, how many followers they have, how often they post, and how much engagement they receive on their posts. This type of research will give you a clear overview of your competitors and their strategies.

3. Use Keyword Reasearch Tools

After this, you can begin using keyword research tools such as SEMrush, Ubersuggest, or Google Keyword Planner to complete the research process. These tools will help you to get keyword ideas, and from these ideas, you can create topic buckets. Topic buckets are simply means to divide your content into groups of related topics that you will cover on your website.

For example, if your niche is “digital marketing,” one bucket can be for general information, such as “what is digital marketing,” “how digital marketing works,” and “what are the different digital marketing channels.”

Another bucket could be related to small business, like “digital marketing packages,” “digital marketing for startups,” or “hire a digital marketing agency.”

A third bucket may focus on its services, where you mention details about SEO, social media packages, and Google Ads management. You may also create a social media bucket, where you talk about campaigns on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest etc. 

4. Identify Seed Keywords

Once you have topic buckets, the next step is to identify seed keywords. These are the basic keywords you will put into keyword research tools to create more ideas. For example, if your seed keyword is “running shoes,” you can type it into SEMrush’s Keyword Magic Tool, set your target country, and analyse the results. From there, you can view keyword volume, competition, keyword variations, related searches, and SERP analysis.

5. Observe Search Intent

After gathering seed keywords, it is important to observe search intent. Every keyword has a purpose behind it. Some users search for information purposes, such as “what is SEO,” while others may search with a buying purposes intent, like “SEO experts for businesses.” There are also users who search for comparison purposes, such as “best SEO tools,” or specific websites, such as “SEMrush login.” So by understanding the search intention of the users, it will allow you to create the right content, such as, informational article, a product page, or a service comparison page etc.

6. Focus on Long-Tail Keywords

Once you understand search intent, the next focus should be on long-tail keywords. While short-tail keywords like “running shoes” may have very high search volumes, they also come with high competition and low conversion rates. Long-tail keywords, such as “best running shoes for men,” have lower search volume but higher conversion rates and less competition. They make up the majority of searches on google and are an excellent way to drive targeted traffic to your site.

7. Analyse Competitor Keywords

At this stage, you should also analyse the keywords your competitors are ranking for. By doing so, you may discover keyword opportunities that you had not considered before. Tools like SEMrush or Ubersuggest or Google Keyword Planner allow you to check competitor domains and identify the exact keywords bringing them traffic. If your competitors are ranking for important keywords, it is a strong signal that you should target them too.

8. Narrow Down Your Keyword List

With all this research, you will likely have a long list of keywords. The next step is to narrow this down to twenty or thirty keywords that you want to actively target. While choosing these, consider whether the search intent matches your marketing goals, whether the keyword difficulty is reasonable, whether the search volume is high enough, and whether you are capable of producing strong content around that keyword. You should also analyse whether the first page of Google is dominated by large brands or if smaller websites can compete.

9. Create Keyword-Focused Titles

After finalising your keyword list, convert these keywords into post titles. Look at the titles of the first ten results on google for each keyword and create a unique and attractive title that includes your target keyword. Place the keyword near the beginning of the title if possible, and add power words such as “best,” “complete,” “easy,” or “free” to make the title more appealing.

10. Use LSI/Related Keywords

Except titles, it is also necessary to use semantically related keywords, often known as LSI keywords. These are words closely related to your main keyword that help search engines better understand your content. For example, if your primary keyword is “online marketing,” related terms may include “internet marketing” and “digital marketing channels.” Adding these related keywords keeps your content natural, avoids keyword stuffing, and makes it more relevant in google’s eyes.

11. Check Trending Keywords

It is also a good practice to check trending keywords using Google Trends tool. This tool helps you identify rising queries and seasonal interests, which you can include in your content to capture additional traffic. Not only these two specific features you may get from this tool but a lot of features.

12. Place Keywords Correctly

Finally, after completing your keyword research, you need to know how to place keywords within your content. Always make sure to add the focus keyphrase in the post title, and if possible, at the beginning. Use it in the page URL and place it naturally within your H1, H2, and H3 headings. When adding images, make sure to add them in the alt text because it contains relevant keywords. In the body of your content, use both primary and related keywords in a natural way. For example, if your primary keyword is “online marketing,” you can use “internet marketing” in other parts of the content to maintain keyword density while keeping the writing smooth.
